Geothermally generated heat from the Laufzorn well has been flowing to Unterhaching since 11 April 2013. Geothermie Unterhaching GmbH & Co KG (GUH) uses this heat from Erdwärme Grünwald GmbH (EWG) directly for its customers or uses it to generate electricity. The two geothermal drilling sites in Laufzorn and Unterhaching have been connected by a pipeline since the end of 2012, and the pumps and heat exchangers have been operational since April 2013.
Both geothermal companies and thus both communities benefit from the heat network – because Grünwald utilises its borehole and Unterhaching covers its energy needs for the Kalina power plant. In addition, EWG and GUH now supply each other with CO2-free heat from geothermal energy when needed – for example, when maintenance work is due on the production well or the surface plant.
