Construction of the heating plant began in April 2011 and was completed in November 2012.
Heat exchangers are needed to transfer the heat. The hot water from the depths transfers its heat to the water in the district heating network and is then cooled and returned to the depths.
In addition to the heat exchangers, the state-of-the-art heating plant includes an oil-fired "redundancy boiler" that allows the water to be heated during maintenance work, for example.
Since 11 April 2013, EWG has been supplying geothermally generated heat to Unterhaching from the Laufzorn heating plant. The heat output is up to 20 MW.
